HORMONAL INTRAUTERINE DEVICE

Hormonal intrauterine devices contain a small dose of progestin, which is released into the uterus in a continuous and even manner.

Unlike other hormonal contraceptives, the hormone has a localized effect and the IUD does not include estrogen. Because of that, the hormonal IUD is an option for women for whom other hormonal contraceptives – pills, patches, and vaginal rings – are contraindicated.

The hormonal IUD is inserted into the uterus by the gynaecologist for 3-5 years, making the use very comfortable and offering long-term contraception. Hormonal IUD can be used during breastfeeding and it is also suitable for women who have not given birth.

The hormonal IUD treats certain diseases of the lining of the uterus, and most users use the IUD method to make their period less bloody and reduce the pain associated with their period.
