GYNAECOLOGY
COPPER INTRAUTERINE DEVICE

Intrauterine devices (IUD) are coils containing copper that the gynaecologist inserts into the uterus. IUDs offer efficient protection against pregnancy.

It is especially suitable for women who wish to avoid a daily, weekly or monthly contraceptive regimen.

The IUD can be placed in the uterus at any point during the whole menstrual cycle and can also be used as an emergency contraceptive, inserting it into the uterus within five days after unprotected intercourse.

The process of inserting the copper IUD only takes a few minutes and in most cases does not cause more than just a little discomfort.

The woman may feel slight dizziness and stomach pain after the IUD is inserted, but these symptoms usually pass quickly.

The copper IUD does not contain any hormones and can be used while the woman is breastfeeding. The IUD is effective for 5 years.
