GYNAECOLOGY
VAGINAL INFECTIONS

The most common vaginal infections are bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis. Bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis are caused by imbalances in the vaginal microflora and are not sexually transmitted diseases.

The infections in the intimate areas for women can cause discomfort and interfere with daily life. Bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis can occur for a lot of women, and this is not something to be embarrassed about, but instead, women should turn to a gynaecologist as soon as the first symptoms arise.

Depending on the infection, the most common symptoms for the infections are:

  • Increased vaginal discharge
  • Unpleasant smell
  • Itching and swelling
  • Pain during urinating or after intercourse
  • Bleeding in between menstruation periods or after sexual intercourse

If any of these symptoms arise, women should turn to a gynaecologist, who performs tests, if necessary, and offers treatment. Vaginal infections are fairly common and are not too serious, as they are usually easily treatable.
