The morning-after pill is a safe contraception method in emergencies but is not a suitable option for long-term use.
If you have forgotten to take your regular contraception pill, the condom has broken or slipped off during intercourse, or if you have had unprotected intercourse, you can use a morning-after pill or a copper IUD as emergency contraception.
The morning after pill should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, preferably within the next 3 days.
Copper IUD can also be used as emergency contraception and it is even more efficient than the morning after pill. The copper IUD can be inserted into the uterus within 5 days after unprotected intercourse. The copper IUD is suitable mainly for women who need efficient protection against conceiving and need it in the long term.
