Whether you’re applying for your first licence, starting driving school, or renewing an existing one, you can’t legally get behind the wheel without a valid health certificate. At Valvekliinik in Ülemiste Health House, getting your driver’s health certificate is quick and straightforward — often on the same day.
What is a driver’s health certificate and when do you need one?
A driver’s health certificate confirms that you have no medical conditions that would prevent you from driving and that you’re fit to take part in traffic. You’ll need one when you:
- enrol in driving school or apply for your first licence;
- renew or exchange your driving licence;
- restore your driving rights.
How long is the certificate valid?
For category B drivers, the certificate is usually issued for ten years. Depending on your age or health, the doctor may set a shorter period. Keep in mind that your driving licence is only valid together with a valid health certificate — if the certificate expires, your right to drive is suspended, even if the date printed on the licence is still far away. You can always check the validity of your certificate in Estonia’s national health portal.
How does the appointment work?
The process is simple and has three steps:
- Fill in the health declaration. Before your visit, log in to the health portal (terviseportaal.ee) with your ID-card or Mobile-ID and complete the electronic health declaration. For a driving licence, the declaration is valid for 30 days.
- Nurse appointment. The nurse carries out the necessary checks, including a vision test.
- Doctor’s decision. Based on the results, the doctor issues the certificate directly to the health portal, where you can also download it yourself.
If you can’t complete the declaration beforehand, we’ll help you on-site.
What to bring
- a valid ID document (ID-card, passport, or driving licence);
- glasses, contact lenses, or a hearing aid, if you use them while driving.
